Mike Wise Suspended – It has taking a while, but slowly people are starting to realize the effects and consequences of ill thought out comments and updates made on sites like Twitter. The latest person to find out the hard way what a slip up on Twitter could mean is sportswriter and columnist Mike Wise, who has been suspended from his job for one month on Tuesday.

Wise showed an extreme lack of judgment by releasing a ‘news statement’ on his Tweeter, saying that “Roethlisberger will get five games, I’m told.” This was meant to be a fake breaking report about Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger’s and the consequences of his actions involving a 20-year-old college student. The college student accused him of sexually assaulting her in a Georgia nightclub.


According to Wise, he was going to make another post five minutes later saying this had been a prank, however this didn’t occur, and he blames the Twitter site for being down and not allowing his next tweet to go up until about half an hour later.

Many news sites picked up the tweet, and reported it as news, much to their later embarrassment, when they found out the news was not true. Just like television, you can’t believe everything you read on the internet.
