USA vs. Algeria World Cup 2010:Landon Donovan Goal

USA vs. Algeria World Cup 2010:Landon Donovan Goal – The U.S. World Cup team was able to advance with a dramatic late goal, winning the match 1-0 over Algeria. Throughout the game the US team had many chances to score, with each one falling through their fingers at each turn of the game. It almost appeared that they had accepted the fact that they were not going to score, had it not been for the resilience of Landon Donovan.
In the barrage of miss-fired shots for the offensive US squad, one did go into the net by was nullified by an offside call. A number of other shots on goal were to the left, right, or too high. The players showed obvious frustration at their lack of accuracy throughout the game.
90 minutes into the match there were still no goals. The US knew that they would not advance with a tie, and a draw would send them packing back to the states.
“You just say maybe it’s our night,” said Coach Bob Bradley.
The two teams were only one minute into extra time when midfielder Landon Donovan, who is widely considered to be the best player on the team, shot a very impressive shot off of a rebound into the net for a victory against Algeria.
The crowd went wild. Had the US tied, they would have not advanced, and have had three draws in the first round of the World Cup. This, being their first victory, was enough to help them advance to the next round.
